Bhubaneswar: On Saturday, the Commissionerate Police in the twin city apprehended a 28-year-old individual accused of defrauding a young man of Rs 3.15 lakh under the pretense of securing him a position with the East Coast Railway.
The accused, identified as Anil Kumar Das from the Jaleswar region in Balasore district, was reported by Maitri Vihar IIC Rabinarayan Behera.
The victim, Satyananda Malick, who resides in Kharavelnagar, filed a complaint regarding the scam on December 12, 2023.
According to the IIC, Anil had assured Satyananda that he could facilitate a Group-D job at East Coast Railway, leading Satyananda to pay him Rs 5.13 lakh in September 2022.
However, after a few months, Satyananda discovered the deception and sought a refund from Anil.
The accused managed to return Rs 1.98 lakh but subsequently cut off all communication. He was arrested on Saturday.
